Jeremy Diddlowe vegetable Each holds his own 'baby'Jeremy Diddlowe, 1872. Robert Lowe, Gladstone's Chancellor of the Exchequer, is depicted as 'Jeremy Diddlowe'. He is presenting John Bull, the representative of the British people, with twopence. The Chancellor had just presented his Budget which, with a Surplus of some 3,500,000, gave a reduction in income tax of 2d in the pound. Mr Bull remains sceptical.
