but everything in place is sturdy and stable and well attached and not especially fragile

with pretty scalloped edge on top and bottom

This cheerful fellow immediately made me happy when I spotted him

and then some distant houses beyond that

The text reads "Playing with Pompey"; apparently Pompey was a popular dog name in the early 19th century, perhaps deriving from the famous dog of William the Silent, Prince of Orange, whose barking thwarted an assassination attempt!
