leading to what became known as “starvation winter in 1883-4

There are obvious losses to this super folky mosaic--mostly to the wooden beads that form a sort of halo around our woman at left

but I'm pretty certain its meant to be a kangaroo

What I find especially amazing is the vessel inside of which this figure snuggly fits the bottom is carved of wood, and the top is hardened, dark green painted (now very crusty) leather, which is hinged at the back corners and lifts
