King Canute and Earl Ulf quarrel over chess Finish:none probably at the 1936 EifelrennenKing Canute and Earl Ulf quarrel over chess, Roskilde, Denmanrk, 1026 (1913). King Canute (c985 1035) was Viking King of England, Norway and Denmark. Ulf Jarl Torgilsson (c998 1026) married King Canute's sister and was appointed by Canute as the Earl of Denmark.
