The Poet Laureate Charles De Lacy Cabinet head and shoulders studio'The Poet Laureate', 1871. Alfred Lord Tennyson (1809 1892), English poet. One of the most popular English poets, he succeeded William Wordsworth as Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom in 1850 and held the position until his death. In 1884, Queen Victoria, who was an admirer of Tennyson's work, made him a baron. A print from Vanity Fair, 22 July 1871.
