I believe this piece dates to the mid to late 19th century

with these eyes all over--wide open

telling me that whoever made this broom took great care with its making

It weighs about 3 1/2 pounds

and exposed clay on the interior and bottom

Not too surprising then that I have not found another set of these, which I'd guess date to the 1920s or 30s, anywhere!
