Victorian representation of a jousting match between David de Lindsay, Earl of Crawford and Lord John de Welles, Ambassador of Richard III. The match must have taken place between 1483 and 1495. The victor in the painting bears the arms of John de Wells, who was in fact beaten by Lindsay. The River Thames and the Tower of London can be seen in the background.
