Description
just bone--were sailor made
I purchased this in Downeast Maine from a longtime dealer of Native American and Inuit pieces who described it as Wabanaki (Northeast Coast Native American)
I think the whole genre of photographs of folk art portraits is pretty fascinating
with portions of prints on reverse
which it looks like someone is entering with alacrity
19th c. Embossed Tin Canister with Figures, Animals, Houses and More 54 inch measuring stick just bone--were sailor madeI believe this was made as a tea canister and dates to the 4th quarter of the 19th century. I've never seen another like it, and fell in love with it for the mix of embossed imagery animating the tin, which reminds me a lot of die cuts as well as learn to draw books of the period, with dog, eagle, dove, house, angel, boat, woman holding what I think is a tambourine overhead, and lots more. Very charming and handy for stashing all sorts of things. 7 5
