and would feature depictions of ships or sea creatures

giving a bit of a sense of moody weather while perfectly setting off this wonderfully carved and painted dog

but it was made to function as a doorstop I believe

but I am not sure whether also relating to mail

H.Sloan Maine Folk Art Bluebird 1940s pottery On one side is aThis is not the first carved bird signed H. Sloan, Maine that I've found (all, like this one, found in Maine), but I haven't been able to find much of anything about him, and don't have a first name. Clearly he loved his birds though, and I might guess that living in Maine he had a particular affection for the bluebird, which he painted the best deep blue. 1980s or so I would guess and very sweet. 5 11 16" beak to tail; 3 1 8" t. Very good condition.
