The Japanese name for this design is Saya gata. The term Saya gata designates a "gossamer figured cloth pattern." The pattern came to Japan during the Tensho era (1573 1592) when Chinese fabrics were imported in large quantities. It also appears on Japanese Mon or family crests, in Buddhist images, on swords and furniture. Sashiko pre printed samplers have wash out stitching lines. Do not pre wash. 100% cotton
