Vice-Admiral Roger John Brownlow Keyes, British naval officer Size:M: 60 x 45cm with star and ribbon]Vice Admiral Roger John Brownlow Keyes, British naval officer, 1918. The commander of the port of Dover, Keyes (1872 1945) was the architect of the Zeebrugge Raid mounted in 1918 against the Belgian port, then being used as a submarine base by the Germans. Although the raid's effectiveness in disrupting German operations was limited, Allied propaganda portrayed the mission as a great success and Keyes was made a baron.
