The cap is fully surrounded by fold down side paneling, trimmed along the upper edge by a band of silver aluminum wire piping. Stitched onto the peak of the cap is an insignia in the form of a dark grey wool backer bearing a hand embroidered Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika. The eagle insignia measures 70 mm (h) x 40 mm
