Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Grand Duchy. An Order Of The Griffon, Knight's Cross, C.1916 United Republic of green and black enamelled insignia(Greifenorden). Instituted 15 September 1884 by Friedrich Franz IV. (1884 1918 issue). In bronze gilt, consisting of a Maltese Cross with red enameled arms, obverse with a central gilt medallion depicting a raised Griffin, the reverse featuring red enamels, the twelve oclock arm with a pebbled fan with a loop accommodating a twisted suspension ring connecting to a triangular original ribbon, measuring 42. 8 mm (w) x 46. 50 mm (h), near extremely fine.
