'McRae's Hotel, Interior' mb-width 1386 by Agnes Giberne (LondonForeground view of the hotel destroyed by volcanic eruption, with its timber structure, corrugated roofing and furniture scattered and under a heavy covering of ash and mud. A group of seven men stand to the right of the image, most facing to camera. A second building is visible beyond the hotel, in a deserted landscape of ash covered ground and defoliated trees.
